Introduction

Agro industries significantly contribute to India’s rapidly growing economy. This is expected to further increase owing to the vast commercial interests and the increasing demand for Indian food and herbal products worldwide. The biggest challenge of Agro industries is the efficient handling of residual byproducts. Few of the available technologies for this purpose are microbial bioprocessing and pyrolysis. Pyrolysis encompasses a controlled heat-treatment of polymeric waste to convert it into hydrocarbons typically for biofuel applications. These processes have their own potentials and limitations such as low conversion efficiency and high energy consumption. This workshop will provide a discussion platform for these challenges and their plausible solutions. Other processes that are designed for waste-to-useful product conversion may also be presented.
